The Thief

Night, night a perfect time of day for Maverix as he crept among the shadows. He watched the Degra guards as they walked unaware that they were being watched. Their armor in a royal blue and silver to mark the royal House of Degra. The two guards did not speak a word. Their eyes were forward, with a hand on their swords. Maverix clung to the shadows, finally the guards began to speak. "Ambassador Saris is thinking about the monsters again." said one." He is trying to get a group together of elite soldiers to go and eliminate them."
"All he wants is revenge for what happened." replied the other. While they were in conversation Maverix snuck up on them and stole their money bags as he went back to the shadows. Maverix smiled they didn't have a lot of money on them so they wouldn't realize they had been robbed until they went to buy. The thief turned and went down an alley when something hard came down on his head knocking him out.
***************************************
The cold woke Maverix as he sat up, his shackles jingled, he glared down at them. His head began to throb. He was in a small cell. A very small cell, there was no bed and no window only a heavy wooden door. He sighed, he had to get out of here. He had not only himself to feed but also a younger sister and brother. Keys rattled in the distance as the heavy door swung open screeching against stone. A torch came in with three people. Maverix shielded his eyes from the fire. "Guards I would like to talk to the thief by myself. The man holding the torch handed it to the man who was dressed in a fine blue cloak. After both men left the man looked at Maverix. " Do you know who I am?" He asked.
"Ambassador Saris," replied Maverix. All Ambassadors wore a certain color on which person they served.
"Correct. Do you know why you are here?"
Maverix was puzzled. "Because I stole?"
"Not quite, you have a talent for stealing, I'm here to make you an offer."
"I can't I have-"
"A brother and sister to take care of. Yes, I already know. You need not worry for them, they have been picked up and are being well taken care of by caretaker." said Saris waving his hand as if something smelled. "Well you listen to my offer?"
"Where are they? My sister doesn't trust people."
"Because of the accident?"Maverix stood up angrily, when the Ambassador raised his hand to calm him. "Easy, both of them are being cared for by loving family, if you behave and accept my offer I can let you go so you can go and see them. Maverix relaxed and sat down. "Know you must have heard about the group I am assembling, I have examined your skills for some time so I would like you to be in it you would very much help the group."
"Who is in this group?"
"Only if you accept and if you turn down my offer well, you would only be in it anyways."
"So what's the point of telling me if you would have just forced me?"
"I want you to have a choice in the matter. Do you accept willingly or?"
"I guess I don't have any other choice."
"Splendid, I'll have you set free and-"
"What exactly am I doing?"
"Details have to wait." The guard came and freed him.
**************************************
Maverix was glad to see his siblings run out of the house to greet him. His brother Morgin was the first to greet him. "Mave!" He yelled. Maverix smiled at his little brother who was barely six years old.
"Hey buddy, where's Erinn?" He asked picking the black haired boy up.
"Erinn is in her room." The house they were in was unbelievable even for Maverix. There was a woman standing at the doorway. "You must be Maverix, nice to meet you, I'm Sera."
"Nice to meet you."
"Your sister is waiting for you, she won't come out of her room." Maverix placed his brother on the ground and followed to where Sera had told him Erinn was. He knocked on the door.
"Go Away." came a sobbing voice.
"Erinn." that was all he had to say for the door to quickly open the door and arms around his waist.
"Maverix! I was worried about you." She cried.
"I'll be fine." He replied unable to tell his thirteen year old sister he would be leaving her.

This is the first of four characters. Promise it will get more interesting.

Whatever happens, I hope this guy survives. Someone who does so much for his siblings should.

I like how he "warmed up" on the guards, before he went and found a real challenge.

There is a quick intro, and an understanding for the characters is given in just a glimpse. I assume as it goes along, more will be revealed. But it is a nice teaser.

Again, there are technical things; some sentences run in together without proper punctuation, and the formatting is single lined again, making it hard to break with conversations. Other than that, it sets the mood up well and gets the reader curious.
